Redefining Performance in PPE | Pro Dry® Tech FR Fabric

FR garments are constructed from materials that are designed to resist heat and are non-conductive. This prevents the fabric from breaking open and exposing the worker's skin to further injury in the event of a hazard while on the job. Additionally, FR garments (particularly the base, or next-to-skin layer) are often designed to move moisture away from the skin which also mitigates risk from higher degree burns from evaporating sweat in the event of a hazard.

However, because of the materials and added protection, FR garments have been known to be thick and bulky, leaving little room for comfort and mobility. DragonWear's Pro Dry® Tech fabric was designed to combat the unwieldy nature of PPE by combining comfort and protection to create a high-performance FR garment with enough versatility for any season.

PRO DRY® TECH FR FABRIC

Weighing in at 6.2 oz/sq. yd, our Pro Dry® Tech FR fabric is designed for use in incredibly lightweight FR garments while still retaining enough protection to be worn as either a base or outer layer. Often times, lightweight base layer garments are in the CAT 1 protection category; our Pro Dry® Tech fabric is rated CAT 2, allowing the worker more versatility and protection when outfitting their PPE.

Retaining a higher protection level is partly achieved by having the Nylon outward-facing, which provides more durability on the garment's outer face. Nylon is a fabric known for its quick-drying and durable characteristics, making it a perfect choice for blend.

FABRIC CHARACTERISTICS

Pro Dry® Tech is constructed from a unique blend of 5 different materials:

Modacrylic
FR Rayon
Twaron
Nylon
Spandex

Modacrylic is an inherently FR material known for being soft, breathable, durable, and quick-to-dry. As a result, it is commonly found in most FR clothing. Similarly, FR Rayon is also known for being incredibly lightweight, breathable, and does not stick to the skin due to moisture from hot weather - an important component in high-performance FR clothing.

Twaron is a para-aramid fiber. Due to its inherent resilience and heat resistance, para-aramids are known for their weight-to-durability ratio, offering incredible value in protection at the lightest weight possible. Lastly, the Spandex gives the garment an enhanced stretch and overall freedom of movement.

LAYERING & FEATURES

The Pro Dry® Tech collection is designed to be used in hot or humid climates. The collection currently consists of four products: the Tech Hoodie, Tech Long Sleeve, Shape Shifter and the Tech Face Mask. All of the products within the collection are constructed from the same fabric, thus offering the same benefits with varying garment designs. However, despite being designed intentionally with hot environments in mind, it remains part of DragonWear's patented work wear layering system and works well as a base or mid-layer in the fall and winter months.

As shown in the graphic above, the garments are best worn individually in months with warmer weather for optimal UPF protection and moisture management. In the colder months, the garments work well as layers and keep the worker dry with their enhanced ability for moisture management and breathability. A few layering combinations our product specialists at DragonWear recommend in fall/winter are:

BUILT-IN UPF PROTECTION

The Tech FR fabric has a built-in UPF 50+ sun protection rating. Normal clothing, especially lighter-weight clothing, does not block out 100% of UV rays. Sunburns increase the likelihood of sickness from heat stress, as they raise the body's core temperature, resulting in dizziness and dehydration. Additional UV protection guarantees that the garment will fully protect your skin from burns which is essential to all-day comfort and overall health in hotter weather.

4-WAY STRETCH

The unique material blend that makes up the Pro Dry® Tech Fabric results in a 4-way stretch fabric; the garment's ability to stretch and recover its shape both length-wise and width-wise. 4-way stretch gives the wearer enhanced freedom of movement, which is ideal for utility workers who are moving around, climbing, reaching, and more. It also gives the garment much greater flexibility, reducing the chances of tearing or abrasion.

ANTI-ODOR

Pro Dry® Tech is constructed with SILVERPLUS® Anti-Odor Fabric Technology. This protects garments from unwanted bacteria that causes body-odors and also works at low washing temperatures. Due to the reduced need to launder, this anti-odor technology can help to increase the lifetime of the garment.
